Meet Virginia Holman!

Holman is a seasoned university educator, author, and editor with a career spanning over two decades. She has taught at institutions such as UNC Chapel Hill, Duke Center for Documentary Studies, CFCC, and UNCW. Her writing has evolved from a focus on mental health journalism to environmental topics, with publications in the Washington Post, DoubleTake Magazine, Salt Magazine, and Sierra Magazine, and many others.

Holman is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Pushcart Prize, NAMI Outstanding Literature Award, Rosalynn Carter Center Journalism Fellowship, and NC Literary Arts Grant. In 2020, she founded the Lower Cape Fear Chapter of the NC Wildlife Federation. The chapter's work received the Governor’s Conservation Achievement Award in 2022. Recently, she contributed to updating the NC Environmental Literacy Plan. She is driven by her passion to create stories that inspire positive change!
